Bell Tents

Bell tents are round canvas shelters with a single central pole. They're sturdy, spacious and surprisingly easy to pitch alone. Most hold a family of four comfortably with room for beds and furniture.

Canvas is the best material for year-round use. It breathes in summer and insulates well in colder months. Look for at least 280gsm weight for durability.

Sizes typically run from 4 metres to 7 metres in diameter. Bigger isn't always better — a 5-metre tent suits most families well. Steel pegs and guy ropes matter more than people realise.
